Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish
What a great way to get back into the swing of blogging things. I know the original prompt was to list books I’ve added to my TBR lately, but I’ve wanted to make a post about the incredible Tumblr edits that have made me want to pick up certain books for a while now, so I figured this was the perfect opportunity. I wasn’t able to find all of them since unless it involves yelling at Sana, I don’t always tag things properly. Just know that I’m in perpetual awe of the book edits I see crossing my dash on a daily basis and of the artistic skills and general stamina of their creators (because I know there’s a lot of time that goes into making them in the first place) and I’m jealous of everyone who has this particular talent.
General disclaimer: slight spoilers in the edits for the books ahead but not in this actual post. Also, the “by” in every heading will lead you to the Goodreads page. Oh, and it’s going to sound like I personally know all the people whose edits I’m linking (not that I wouldn’t like to) rather than the more accurate scenario, which is me drooling over their edits and talent from afar, but it felt weird and rude using their URLs instead of their actual names, so.
The Wrath and the Dawn by Renée Ahdieh
I think this social media edit by Katie (excellent blog name btw) is the first one that instantly made me want to read the book in question. Social media edits are my favourite and I was intrigued from the moment I saw that TARIQ YOUR BIRD IS LOOKING @ ME snap.
Not If I See You First by Eric Lindstrom
Oh man, I remember reblogging Kortu’s Not If I See You First edit almost a year ago, immediately checking if the book was available yet (the edition I wanted wasn’t), and really hoping panel #5 meant the romance would be f/f. Unfortunately it wasn’t, but the book itself was still excellent (and quite OTP-ish if I do say so myself).
Gallagher Girls by Ally Carter
All it took was that picture of girls climbing the fence in Abi’s YA Book Meme edit for me to jump on the series, but because I’m deeply displeased by the lack of my love Rebecca Baxter in that one, let me direct you to Emma’s Queen Bex Baxter edit as well because I agree.
Addicted to You by Krista and Becca Ritchie
There is so much love for the Addicted series on my dash and I’m too curious a person not to cave and binge the entire series in a distressing small amount of time when something like that happens. I can’t even remember if there was a particular edit that pushed me over the edge, but these are some of my favourites: Addicted couple aesthetic by Laura, the most emotional Lily & Rose moment by Octavia, a Raisy OTP edit by Edna, this Calloway sisters appreciation post by Christina, and a few of Daisy’s Hothouse Flower shirts by Sil.
Kulti by Mariana Zapata
Because I am a very weak and predictable person, I added Kulti to my need-to-check-out-immediately list when I saw Lindsey Morgan in Idil’s edit, but it’s the The Book Voyagers’ book summary + character aesthetics tweet in their Favourite Diverse Books thread that actually made me pick it up. Check out the rest of their thread, by the way, because their recommendations are amazing. And I also really really love this book edit by Diep.
Trouble is a Friend of Mine by Stephanie Tromly
Insta-buy and insta-read from the moment Claire’s excellent choice of scene crossed my dash. I only realised when I’d finished the book that I should have read the caption that informed me this would be the very last page in the book. It was a stressful time.
Something in Between by Melissa de la Cruz
I can’t imagine anyone not wanting to read Something in Between after seeing Sue’s beautiful edit.
The Countess Conspiracy by Courtney Milan
Is this technically an au edit? Yup. Doesn’t mean Marie’s gorgeous pastel colour bomb hasn’t moved the Brothers Sinister to the top of my TBR list.
Ash by Malinda Lo
I’ll have to read Huntress first, I think, but Sue’s princesses in love edit made sure I’m making that a priority.
Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
Okay, OBVIOUSLY this series was already on my radar but LOOK AT THIS THING OF ABSOLUTE BEAUTY CHAI CONCOCTED. HOW DO YOU EVEN HAVE THAT KIND OF COMMAND OVER COLOUR.
Ink and Ashes by Valynne E. Maetani
So so very often cute/pretty/gorgeous edits with well-picked quotes, of which Mana’s is one, alert me to books that I’d never even heard of, which is one of the billion reasons why Tumblr edits should get more credit and recognition in the book(blogging) community tbh.
Oh look I’m cheating at a numbers thing again. Shocking.
#1 Quotes
Why would I ever care about frictionless acceleration anyway? How is that going to get me a girlfriend?
The most relatable quote from Tell Me Again How a Crush Should Feel by Sara Farizan, as posted by Britta, which will be read so soon if I have any say in it. But also, Diep’s edit for this book is gorgeous.
“How would you like your eggs?”
I tried. I really did. But I glanced at his crotch and it came out anyway. “Fertilized?”
Again, I’m so very easy and predictable. Thanks to Teresa for reminding me to put the Charley Davidson series by Darynda Jones on my 2017 TBR.
#2 Found After the Fact
So they didn’t actually put the books on my TBR but I love these edits anyway.
Saving Francesca by Melina Marchetta
I found this one only recently when I was browsing the internet for some much needed Siobhan Sullivan appreciation and you guys, I think this Frankie & Siobhan friendship moment by Lisa (a.k.a. my number one source for super stunning and rebloggable edits) might be my all-time favourite.
The Piper’s Son by Melina Marchetta
Kinda NSFW, which also comes with the territory of Lisa’s edits sometimes ha, but AHAHAHAHA IT’S NOT LIKE I’M IN ENOUGH PAIN OVER MY OTP ON A DAILY BASIS ALREADY OR ANYTHING. Real talk, I maybe lied two sentences ago because I keep going back and forth between the Saving Francesca edit and this one as to which one is my ultimate favourite.
Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake
Still waiting for this book to take the YA world by storm so start reblogging Lauren and Megan’s edit, and everyone with the skills: please make me a trillion more please and thank you.
The Lynburn Legacy by Sarah Rees Brennan
Do I like this Eri’s Lynburn edit on mydarlinginej more or the one posted on cammiemorgan? Both. Both is good.
